20 Years of ICF—International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health: Uses and Applications around the World

The International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF) is the international standard for framing, describing, recording and measuring functioning and disability [1,2]. The World Health Organization (WHO) recommends using this classifica- tion alongside the International Classification of Diseases, 11th revision (ICD-11), that is used to report mortality and morbidity data [3]. ICF can also be used together with the third reference classification, the International Classification of Health Interventions (ICHI), to assess the needs for and to follow the results of performed interventions. Used together, these classifications can provide information about the health state of individuals and populations [4].
